Motherboard maker refutes reports of market exit

Taiwanese firm ECS brands a local press report claiming it is giving up on making own-brand motherboards 'untrue'

A motherboard maker reported to be planning to exit the market has spoken out and branded such claims "untrue" as it reiterates its commitment to the hardware channel.

Yesterday, Taiwanese tech site Digitimes cited supply-chain sources claiming Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) will no longer actively market own-brand DIY motherboards and will instead hand production to OEMs if customers ask to buy any. The sources said this is the equivalent of the firm gradually withdrawing from the global own-brand DIY motherboard space.

But the company - which is also based in Taiwan and distributes its wares globally, including in the UK through Northamber and Very PC – insisted this was far from true and issued an open letter in response.

"We like to formally clarify that ECS would never give up any opportunity to work on own-brand DIY motherboard as what we always commit to our valuable customers [sic]," said ECS president Sunny Yang.

"ECS has made all the efforts to manage our own-brand motherboard and create more service and value to our channel customers for years. We would continue to put more resources to provide cutting-edge products and marketing events."

Yang added that ECS "treasures" its relationship with its channel and customers.
