Microsoft: Windows 10 rollout will be slow and steady
Although the release date is set for 28 July, many customers face a wait
Microsoft has said some Windows 10 customers could be in for a wait before they get their hands on the new OS in a blog post detailing how it plans to run the rollout.
Back in June, Microsoft announced Windows 10 would be set for release on 29 July. But in a blog post today, the firm said this date will signal the arrival of Windows 10 for Windows Insiders - a group of IT pros, developers and experts who help Microsoft improve its offering - and not everyone.
"Starting on 29 July, we will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders," said Terry Myerson, Microsoft's executive vice president of the Windows and Devices Group.
"From there, we will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after 29 July. Each day of the rollout, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.
"If you reserved your copy of Windows 10, we will notify you once our compatibility work confirms you will have a great experience, and Windows 10 has been downloaded on your system."
Some business customers will have less of a wait, with Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education arriving on the Volume Licensing Service Centre on 1 August.
"Window 10 Pro, Windows 10 Enterprise and Windows 10 Education offer a rich set of fundamentals that you would expect from Windows, and a range of security, deployment and management features," Myerson said.
"Just like for our consumer customers, we'll continue to introduce new features and updates in an ongoing manner, including Enterprise Data Protection later this year. We encourage you to prepare for your deployment of Windows 10 in the coming months."
