UK is star performer for Dixons Carphone
But tech retailer admits there is 'no room for complacency'
The UK arm of Dixons Carphone was the strongest performer at the firm last year, according to a stock exchange announcement this morning, but the company has insisted it will not rest on its laurels.
For the 13 months to 2 May, profit after tax at the whole of Dixons Carphone rose by almost a quarter (24 per cent) annually to £293m on revenue which over the same period grew six per cent to £9.9bn.
The lion's share of sales came from the UK, where revenue grew eight per cent to £6.5bn over the same period. Dixons Carphone's Nordics business saw sales jump four per cent to £2.7bn while in southern Europe, sales slumped 10 per cent to £637m.
Dixons Carphone's group chief executive Sebastian James said he is cautiously pleased with the company's progress.
"The job is far from done," he said. "I am acutely aware that there is no room for complacency in a sector which has seen unprecedented change, bringing both opportunities and challenges.
"This has been a terrific first year for Dixons Carphone. We have seen excellent increases in both sales and profitability and we have made very encouraging progress with the tricky job of integrating these two great companies. At the same time, we have continued to generate strong customer satisfaction numbers, made significant strides in our Connected World Services business including our agreement with Sprint, and launched a brand new mobile network.
"We are very optimistic about the road ahead, and Dixons Carphone is lucky to have such a fantastic team of people – in every part of the business – to deliver these goals. My sincere thanks to them for everything that has been done so far."
