Connected Data signs up Commtech as first UK VAD

Vendor wants to help businesses tackle rogue Dropbox usage

Storage vendor Connect Data has selected Commtech as its first UK VAD to distribute its cloud appliances for business.The distributor joins CMS and Ingram Micro in Connected Data’s line-up, but will be the first to look after the enterprise section of the company in the UK and Ireland.Geraldine Osman, vice president of international marketing at Connected Data, told CRN that Commtech were chosen because of its strong relationships with resellers.Commtech’s country manager for the UK, Mark Walker, said: “Our resellers are looking for ways to differentiate their offering to the end user and with [Connected Data’s] Transporter for Business solutions we can provide them with a technology that complements their existing vendor portfolio.”The enterprise solution from Connected Data will reportedly help businesses tackle what Osman calls "rogue Dropbox usage".“Many businesses are struggling with containing the rogue Dropbox usage that they are seeing out there, as users are just short-circuiting any sort of BPM [business performance management] and NAS [network-attached storage] system because they want to do things easily and quickly,” she said.The vendor claims that its transporter allows enterprises to have control of their data, and gives users the ability to access and share files across devices and platforms within its key markets, which include the public sector, legal and broadcast media.Russell Johnson, COO of Connected Data, added: “This positioning meant we wanted and needed a VAD with experience of taking disruptive technologies to market.“Commtech is known for successfully taking emerging technology to the next level, and they specialise in the storage sector. So for Connected Data, Commtech was the perfect fit,” he said.
