CensorNet takes slice of security outfit Sirrustec - sources

Security vendor CensorNet acquires Sirrustec's email security, email continuity and archiving platform, according to sources

UK-headquartered CensorNet has acquired part of fellow security vendor Sirrustec, CRN understands.

Florida-based Sirrustec provides email management with its Software Email Management Platform, delivers solutions around security, and offers its Sirrustec Software Storage Solution.

Although confirmed by neither company, a source close to the matter said CensorNet closed a deal to acquire Sirrustec's email security, email continuity and archiving platform last night.

Pitting itself against Trustwave, Websense and Symantec, CensorNet provides security for internet access, cloud applications and email by delivering increased visibility for in-office and mobile users. Founded in 2005, the company is headquartered in Basingstoke and has a US office in Cupertino, California.

The deal for part of Sirrustec will give CensorNet a bigger footprint in the US, the source said.

CensorNet was bought out by a consortium of investors last October, led by Ed Macnair, who was formerly the chief of email security vendor M86 Security.

Macnair has previously indicated to CRN he intends to "shake up the market" which he said was "dull and stale". He has also said he wants to go after his competitors in the content solution market such as Websense and Trustwave.

When approached, CensorNet declined to comment, and we were waiting for a statement from Sirrustec at the time of publication.
