Datto bolsters distie line-up for European growth plans

Vendor looks to recruit another 100 partners to its channel base

Backup vendor Datto is building out its European distributor line-up as part of a push into new markets across the region.

The new disties appointed by the US-headquartered firm are Upstream in the Nordics, BeMSP in France, Achab in Italy and Portland in Benelux.

The vendor, which provides data backup, recovery and business continuity solutions, said it is looking to sign up 100 more reseller partners by the end of the year across EMEA as part of the European push.

In the UK, Datto has 300 active partners and has also signed up a string of MSPs recently, including Circle IT, BTA and SICL.

Andrew Stuart, managing director of Datto, told CRN: "The EU is a newer area for us, having been in the UK for just over two years, and [we] wanted to make sure we got this market right before we started our expansion to make sure we weren't stretching ourselves too thin."

He added that the vendor has set its sights on Germany to house a second datacentre – the first being in Portsmouth.

"We want to have a secondary site and Germany makes a lot of sense for us," he said. "Then later on we will look at the Middle East and South Africa as another growth area," he said.

Stuart continued that Datto – which competes with the likes of Symantec – will continue to grow its partner base, and offer more value to partners through a new focus on demand generation at events such as IT Expo and Channel Expo.

"We want to bring leads back to our partners to help them grow their businesses," he said.
