Google introduces revamped logo
Tech company says new logo reflects its multiplatform capabilities
Google has introduced a redesigned logo which it says reflects the search engine's multiplatform capabilities.
Originally, Google was designed to operate on a single desktop browser page. But today it is used on a multitude of different devices and screens.
Tamar Yehoshua, vice president of product management, and director of user experience at Google, Bobby Nath, said in a blog post: "You expect Google to help you whenever and wherever you need it, whether it's on your mobile phone, TV, watch, the dashboard in your car, and yes, even your desktop.
"Today we are introducing a new logo and identity family that reflects this reality and shows you when the Google magic is working for you, even on the tiniest of screens."
The post continued: "It doesn't simply tell you that you're using Google, but also shows you how Google is working for you.
"For example, new elements like a colourful Google mic help you identify and interact with Google whether you're talking, tapping or typing."
The new look comes shortly after Google announced the renaming of the search engine's parent company to Alphabet.
A blog post described Alphabet as a collection of companies, consisting of brands that it says are "pretty far afield" of its main products such as Chrome, YouTube and Android.
