John McAfee joins race for US Presidency

Anti-virus vendor founder is going up against the likes of Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Kanye West

McAfee founder John McAfee has confirmed he is running for president of the United States of America next year as a third-party candidate.

According to reports, the man who describes himself on his @officialmcafee Twitter handle as an "eccentric millionaire & still alive", and who turns 70 next week, filed paperwork for his candidacy this week.

In a "statement of candidacy" McAfee (pictured) said: “I am founding a new party yet to be announced” according to the reports.

He has launched an official campaign website, with the option to donate and find out how to vote.

The homepage features a picture of McAfee, with a quote from George Washington: “Guard against the impostures of pretended patriotism”.

And he also has a dedicated Presidential Twitter handle @mcafee2016.

McAfee last appeared on Channelweb in 2012, when he was arrested in Guatemala for illegally entering the country after being on the run for several weeks after reports the Belizean authorities were keen to speak to him regarding the killing of his neighbour Gergory Faull.

And last month he was arrested in Tennessee on charges of driving under the influence and possession of a handgun under the influence.

He is the latest in a long line of well-known faces all aiming for a shot at grabbing the keys to the White House, including Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump and Kanye West, who last month hinted he would be going for the Presidency in 2020.
