Ex-Thomas Cook boss Green rocks up at IBM

Harriet Green to lead new IoT and Education business units

IBM has appointed former Thomas Cook chief executive Harriet Green to run two new business units - Education Business and Internet of Things (IoT).

Big Blue announced plans in March to invest $3bn (£1.95bn) over the next four years in cognitive computing technologies and cloud services, and the new units represent the next stage in that plan.

Green will be tasked with running both new divisions in her role as vice president and general manager of the units.

IBM described Green as a "transformative leader" and added "her creativity and vision will help organisations transform themselves to take fuller advantage of emerging data and cognitive technologies".

Green will lead a team of more than 2,000 consultants, researchers and developers who will work within the newly launched units.

Green said: "I'm honoured to join IBM and to become part of a team that is shaping this exciting and transformative moment for industries.

"The Internet of Things will help enterprises and governments at every level unlock entirely new areas of opportunity and growth, and no company is better positioned than IBM to be the partner of choice as these organisations embrace its potential. Likewise, education is being transformed by technology and IBM is incredibly well positioned to help leaders in the field enable this change."
