Data security firm passes £1m mark in mobile recycling

S2S claims this signifies a change in businesses' attitude towards the security of their data

Data destruction specialist S2S has announced that it has recycled more than £1m worth of businesses' mobile devices since 2014, claiming this highlights a change in attitude towards companies' information security. The firm says the S2S Mobile Solutions branch of its business has helped clients take more care of their data especially on company-owned mobile devices, which now contain vast amounts of sensitive information.

S2S’ service offers mobile tablet and PDA recycling, delivering audit reports for the data erasure process on all CESG-approved software. For each device, the business receives a payment or charity donation.

Tom Scott, sales manager at S2S Mobile Solutions, said: “Hitting the £1m target so quickly demonstrates that organisations are seeing the value in recycling unused mobiles and the number of units coming through the door keeps increasing.”

More than half of UK adults believe the data on their phones would be safe if the device were lost or stolen and yet 86 per cent don't have security software installed, S2S claimed.

"We are confident that we will have a strong finish to 2015 and continue this into 2016 to ensure we provide clients, new and old, with a guaranteed secure service," Scott said.
