Moyse rocks up at FAST to boost its cloud credentials

Cloud expert Ian Moyse joins group in a personal capacity

Cloud expert Ian Moyse has joined the board of the Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) as the group looks to beef up its cloud credentials.

Moyse has joined the group in a personal capacity but currently serves as senior sales manager at Rackspace and as a cloud adviser at a number of other organisations. He is also on the board of the Cloud Industry Forum and Eurocloud.

FAST was set up in 1984 and aims to defend the IP rights of software publishers as well as promote the legal use of software.

Moyse told CRN his role on the board will be to help FAST get to grips with changes to licensing brought about by the move many customers are making to the cloud.

"In the cloud model, licensing is very different and it varies and has a different impact on businesses," he said. "FAST saw value in me through seeing me at the Cloud Industry Forum bringing knowledge of the cloud market. My role on the board of FAST is to help shape and contribute from my experience in the cloud world to ensure they stay relevant to members and partners as [the industry] evolves."

Moyse said FAST has seen cloud become a much bigger issue recently, which prompted them to seek out experts in the field.

"I'm bringing in more detail and granularity and relevant [information] about what's happening out there in vendors' and customers' worlds," he added.

FAST's chief executive Alex Hilton said Moyse is a "welcome addition" to the board.

"Having previously led a business in the software licensing space and with a wealth of knowledge spanning traditional models and newer cloud go-to-market models, he is well placed to offer guidance and support," he said. "As FAST continues to evolve to the modern needs of our members and the industry, Ian's advisory input will be invaluable to our cause and members."
