Tony Singleton exiting role as head of G-Cloud

Singleton to start new position at Department for Business, Innovation and Skills in March

Tony Singleton, director of G-Cloud, is leaving his role for a new position at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS).

News of Singleton's departure was first revealed by ComputerWeekly. He will begin his role as director of operations at the Digital Directorate at BIS on 1 March.

"Tony [Singleton] will lead on recruitment, finances, procurement, commercial and business operations for BIS Digital, using his extensive experience and skills to ensure that BIS Digital is able to deliver the group-wide transformation that forms part of the [department's] corporate strategy," said a BIS statement.

Singleton has been head of G-Cloud, and the framework's parent organisation Digital Marketplace, since March 2014, according to his LinkedIn page, and the project has undergone a massive transformation during that time.

Earlier this month, the government announced that sales through the Digital Marketplace - home of G-Cloud and the Digital Services framework - passed the £1bn mark. But it was also revealed by CRN that about half of G-Cloud sales went through just 30 suppliers.

Singleton has been at the Cabinet Office since 1998 and has held various roles including chief operating officer of Directgov and chief operating officer of Government Digital Service.

Singleton took to Twitter to express his sadness at departing his role as head of G-Cloud.
