Great Ormond Street Hospital seeks IT suppliers for electronic patient record system

Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) is on the hunt for IT partners to supply it with an electronic records system and business intelligence kit in a deal worth up to £50m over 20 years.

In a recently published contract notice, the GOSH NHS Trust outlined the requirements for its electronic patient record (EPR) system and a business and research platform, which will form two respective Lots.

The trust expects a minimum of six suppliers to be invited to tender or participate in the deal, which is expected to be worth between £46m and £50m over 20 years.

In a Q&A article published on the GOSH website, director of planning and information Robert Burns said that the introduction of an EPR system will help improve waiting times.

"To have an electronic system that measures the different stages in the patient's journey at the hospital will help hugely, which is something we're looking to develop," he said.

"The first step is to get an electronic data management system where all the patients' data is held in one place. We can then look to move on to an EPR that assists with many aspects of a patient's care pathway, for example scheduling tests and monitoring the effectiveness of the treatments we provide.

"We're also looking to bring in digital check-in areas, which immediately tell us when a patient has arrived. These will additionally allow patients to confirm that we have their correct details, which is helpful for our communications with them."
