Exclusive: Dimension Data's UK boss resigns

Calvin Goom calls it a day after 12 and a half years at systems integrator - but says he plans to stay in the industry

Dimension Data's UK managing director has stepped down after more than 12 years at the global systems integrator.

Calvin Goom has resigned from the firm, effective 21 March, after four years helming the UK business, a company representative confirmed.

Goom (pictured) told CRN that he planned to stay in the channel.

"Twelve and a half years is a long time. I've had a fantastic time there and it's a great organisation but it's time to do something different," he said.

"I'm going to take a good two months off doing nothing on garden leave."

Having been acquired for £2.1bn by Japanese carrier NTT in 2010, Dimension Data CEO Brett Dawson in 2013 laid out ambitious plans to double its turnover to $12bn (£8.5bn) by 2018.

Although Dawson last June reportedly said Didata was on track to record $8bn revenues last year, NTT's CEO Hiroo Unoura said in an earnings call last November, a transcript of which can be read here, that he had held "frank discussions" about how to improve the firm's profitability.

However, NTT CFO Jun Sawada said in a Q3 earnings call in February, a transcript of which can be read here, that Didata was "expanding sales" and is "trending favourably".

In an interview with CRN last September, Goom said Didata's UK business was making a big bet on the public sector this year, a market it entered in earnest only through its acquisition of NextiraOne. In the UK and Ireland, NextiraOne added 175 staff, and its integration was completed on 1 October.

A company representative told us Goom's replacement will be announced in due course.

"Dimension Data can confirm that Calvin Goom has resigned from Dimension Data, effective 21 March. Dimension Data cannot comment on Calvin's future plans," the representative added.
