Exertis plots MDM push following Siracom buy

Distributor signals it will continue to keep eye open for acquisitions following purchase of wireless specialist

Exertis is plotting an assault on the mobile device management (MDM) market on the back of last week's acquisition of Siracom.

Wireless specialist Siracom is the latest in a spate of acquisitions for the broadliner, which now claims to be the UK and Ireland's largest technology distributor.

In a written Q&A with CRN, Phil Brown, UK IT sales and commercial director at Exertis, said the distributor will continue to scan for M&A opportunities in the enterprise, IT, home and gaming sectors, as well as in emerging sectors such as smart technology.

Fortinet and Samsung distributor Siracom, which reported 2014 revenues of £14.2m, will bolster the security capabilities Exertis picked up in 2013 through its acquisition of Cohort.

Brown said the move will pave the way for Exertis into new markets such as MDM.

"Siracom's wireless vendor portfolio significantly enhances the current Exertis enterprise proposition and none more so than in security solutions," he said.

"With the critical link between mobility and security, we now plan to grow in areas such as mobile device management and the opportunities to provide interconnected solutions across wireless, security and the end-point device."

Siracom was founded in 2002 by David Thompson and Robb Leggett, who previously each owned a 50 per cent stake in the firm.

Asked how long Siracom's top management would stay on, Brown said the firm's leaders will make a "significant contribution to the management and direction of the business now and in the future".

Brown also signalled that there would be no let-up in an M&A spree that has also taken in the likes of Apple distributor Computers Unlimited.

"As the market evolves, Exertis will continue to look at areas that complement and strengthen our business and add value for all our customers in all the sectors we operate in, whether enterprise, IT, home and gaming, or emerging technologies such as the smart tech sector," he said.
