UK Computer Supplies rethinks expansion strategy

Reseller denies rumours that it has closed its London and Leeds offices

After opening offices in London and Leeds last year, UK Computer Supplies says it has rethought its expansion plans and is to focus more on building teams of remote workers.

Matt Dan, enterprise sales manager at the Northampton-based VAR, denied to CRN rumours that the two satellite offices had been closed, but confirmed there had been a "slight change" in strategy.

"They are still open, but going forward we are looking at more remote roles spread across the country," he said.

"No-one has been made redundant. A couple of people have gone, but that is to do with other things."

Founded in 2009, UK Computer Supplies operated "under the radar" until last year, when it made some big noises about its ambitions to expand. At the time, it said the opening of more offices was on the cards.

Dan said focusing on building remote working teams would allow the HP, Dell and Toshiba partner to spread itself further across the UK, adding that one member of staff now works in Portugal.

"We are still hiring. We have 40 salespeople and are growing," he said.

"I'm not saying we won't close these offices; the strategy overall is a remote working offering where we can touch more people."

UK Computer Supplies claimed last year that its "very, very different" compensation plans were luring sales staff from rivals, and Dan said such quirks remain its USP.

"We are not afraid to experiment to try to grow the business," he said.
