Serial reseller fraudster emerges under new guise
Bizarrely named Vagetech has exactly the same website and VAT number as Camcorp UK
The unknown masterminds behind the fraudulent resellers Camcorp and Movitek have emerged on the scene again with a new scam site called Vagetech.
With exactly the same-look website as Camcorp (see below), the firm claims to be an HP, Cisco, Apple, Microsoft, Kingston Technology, Intel, Acer, Toshiba and Transcend partner.
It also has the same VAT number as Camcorp.
As revealed by CRN, Camcorp UK made numerous attempts to order high-value kit from resellers and in some cases made off with thousands of pounds' worth of equipment.
When CRN started sniffing around the Camcorp site, it suddenly became unavailable, with the same directors setting up a new firm called Movitek Ltd. But that has since disappeared off the scene too.
The latest firm, led by director Rafet Yuzgeg and based in Unit 5, Hale Wharf, Ferry Lane, London; claims to have a credit rating by Dun & Bradstreet, and aside from a few glaring errors (see below - manufacturer instead of manufacturers) its website could appear legitimate to the untrained eye.
However, CRN attempted to contact the number listed and was unable to get through to an actual person, leaving a message asking the company to explain its position instead, which has yet to be answered.
One reseller, who asked to remain anonymous, warned the industry to be on its guard against this company: "We were hit by Camcorp UK and every now and then I'll search for the VAT number. I was amazed when this company came up.
"It is extremely frustrating because everything is exactly the same, from the website design to the vendor partners listed. I have updated ActionFraud on this situation, but I don't seem to be able to get anybody in law enforcement to actually stop them. It is almost like nobody cares. It makes you wonder where they will emerge next."
A separate site, called The Broker Site has issued a fraud warning against the company under the headline "Please don't deal with Rafet Yuzgeg from Vagetech.co.uk."
The warning added: "They [Vagetech] are contacting computer traders in the UK pretending that they want to buy HP laptops and asking for 30-day credit. We suggest not to deal with this company or if you deal with them make sure to request upfront payment!"
CRN was awaiting a comment from ActionFraud on the situation as this article was published and none of the vendors listed that CRN contacted have heard of the firm.
