Entatech to focus on four key areas

Entatech has revealed plans to concentrate on four areas as it looks to become a more focused distributor.

In February Entatech concluded a long-running saga with HMRC and completed a management buy-out, drawing to a close a difficult period for the distributor.

Managing director Dave Stevinson (pictured) said he is now committed to focusing the distributor on the areas it is most strong, with less emphasis in the commodity PC space and the enterprise space, he explained.

This new strategy will see Enta focus on four areas: PC components and gaming; systems and peripherals; networking and connected home; and retail and software.

"Enta has to be realistic," Stevinson said.

"We are a focused distributor. In the past I think we had aspirations to be a small broadline distributor but it's impossible to compete with the big four [Ingram, Tech Data, Westcoast and Exertis].

"We know where we're strong, so we're doing less, but we're doing less much better."

The business is in the second year of a four-year plan, Stevinson said.

The first year was about stabilising the business during its legal dispute and change of ownership, with the main aim this year to give the business the right structure - including the right vendors, people, capital and data structure, he added.

"There will potentially be some new relationships, but right now we've got a lot of good partners, a lot of good customers, a lot of good vendors, and it's a case of getting the current ones working much more effectively.

"Doing fewer things better is more effective than doing lots of things not so well," Stevinson added.
