VC behind Rubrik's $61m funding round compares it to Sun Microsystems
Data management start-up will have equivalent industry impact to 1990s server giant, according to new VC backer Khosla Ventures
The VC house that led the latest round of funding at Rubrik has compared the start-up's potential impact to that of Sun Microsystems.
Just 30 months after its inception, the converged data management specialist has hoovered up more than $112m (£86m) in funding, including the $61m Series C funding round announced today.
Palo Alto-based Rubrik, which is busy expanding in Europe, said the lolly will provide a war chest to scale sales, marketing, support and engineering.
Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures which led the latest injection, said Rubrik - which claims to have already racked up "numerous" Fortune 500 customers - is enjoying "unparalleled momentum" in the market.
"As datacentres are reimagined for cloud, there's a universal need for a data management platform that can orchestrate data anywhere - across private and public clouds," he said.
"Just as Sun Microsystems ushered in an era of client-server computing, Rubrik pioneers a cloud data management architecture that will fundamentally transform how enterprises manage and access their application data."
Rubrik said it now works with 150 resellers and distributors globally, with Pure Storage, VMware, Nutanix and Tintri among its technology partners.
Rubrik CEO and co-founder Bipul Sinha said: "With organisations increasingly looking to leverage public cloud, Rubrik delivers the killer application to democratise public cloud for enterprises with an easy button to protect, manage, and secure data everywhere."
