IBM hit hardest in EMEA server revenue decline

Cisco sees 18.4 per cent server revenue increase in EMEA

Server revenue in EMEA decreased by 3.7 per cent year on year in Q2 as IBM took the biggest hit of the top five vendors, IDC claims.

IBM saw its market share drop from 14.1 per cent to 9.3 per cent year on year, while its revenue plummeted 36.9 per cent over the same period.

Hewlett Package Enterprise (HPE) and Lenovo saw sales slide 2.7 per cent and 8.9 per cent respectively, while Cisco was the biggest gainer with revenue growth of 18.4 per cent.

Dell also saw revenue growth of 1.6 per cent.

"The tempered performance of the 2Q16 western European server market was partly fuelled by a significant revenue decrease for IBM, due in large part to the refresh cycle of legacy mainframe units in the second quarter of 2015," said Michael Ceroici, research analyst for European infrastructure at IDC.

Despite the negative growth, HPE maintained its place at the top of the table with revenue of £1.1bn, around double Dell's £527m revenue.

Vendors outside of the top five made up 24 per cent of the market in the quarter.
