Windows 10 falls to four-month low in UK - Statcounter
Market data shows Windows 7 adoption rocketed in January
Windows 10's year got off to a bad start in the UK, according to data from Statcounter, which shows the market share for the OS fell to 19.42 per cent - a four-month low.
The number cruncher said that Windows 10's market share in the UK slumped to 19.42 per cent in January from 20.13 per cent the month before. In the months before, its share had been falling slightly month on month, and January's figure is the lowest it has been since September, when share stood at just 18.88 per cent. It jumped the month after to 20.46 per cent, but has been falling steadily since, the data shows.
Meanwhile, Windows 7's market share in the UK has been going in the opposite direction and in January jumped to 15.75 per cent, from 13.95 per cent the month before.
Support for Windows 7 is due to expire in 2020 and Microsoft issued a blog last month saying the aging OS is no longer up to handling modern security risks, meaning users should flock to Windows 10 instead.
Figures from Context, which tracks PC shipments into distribution, said last week that Windows 10 is now the most popular Windows business machine in the business space in western Europe, overtaking the Windows 10 version which is downgradable to Windows 7.
Microsoft has been quiet about Windows 10 adoption figures for a while, but the most recent figures it released said the OS is running on 400 million devices globally.
