NTT Security launches worldwide threat intelligence centre
Security VAR rolls its research and intelligence units into one global entity
Security giant NTT Security has launched a global threat hub that will allow it to respond more quickly and effectively to security threats, according to global strategy SVP Garry Sidaway.
NTT's Global Threat Intelligence Centre (GTIC) brings together different research elements from across the wider NTT group, based in different parts of the world, all under one umbrella.
Sidaway told CRN that the changing cybersecurity threat landscape means it was no longer beneficial to have the siloed parts of the previous research set-up working on different areas of security, and not communcating as effectively as they could have been.
"We had different parts of the organisation looking at very different threat actors," he said. "The managed services perspective looked at it in terms of putting in counter-measures, we had the research team looking at it from an advanced threat perspective, and then we had collaboration with our threat reports and platforms collecting data from our honeypots.
"The purpose of this [change] is to streamline these processes and make sure that we're sharing this information and putting context around it for our clients. It's really to drive that efficiency of all the research that we're running into one centre.
"From a threat perspective, they can come at you from anywhere and clearly being a global organisation we see those threats emerge and come from different environments, targeting different verticals and regions as well. Having a global view of that is essential."
The move to consolidate different areas of research and intelligence into one unit falls in line with the wider strategy of the NTT Group.
NTT recently folded its security brands - the likes of NTT Com Security, Solutionary and Earthwave - into the combined NTT Security entity.
Sidaway explained that the new group structure makes it easier to share data across the whole organisation.
"We've been collaborating with the wider NTT group for quite some time now, probably four or five years in terms of collating our managed security services data together," he explained.
"Now that the reorganisation has gone through, this process has been enhanced by the single view and having NTT Security as the experts within the group around cybersecurity and cyber defence.
"Collaboration is clearly a theme across the cybersecurity industry at the moment, so leveraging the relationships we have with our strategic vendors and the relationships across the wider NTT group is paramount."
The GTIC will have data fed into it by NTT's managed security services divisions, security operations centre analysts, research analysts, network security engineers, professional security service consultants and incident response handlers.
The overall aim of the GTIC, Sidaway said, is to be able to turn the noise generated by NTT Security's various divisions into tangible data that can help both NTT's clients and its incident response teams to address threats more quickly.
