Michael Dell sets dial to digital transformation at Dell EMC World

Dell's eponymous leader gives obligatory name-check to 'digital transformation' in welcome video

Dell EMC World kicks off today and ‘digital transformation' will be the key theme, if Michael Dell's welcome video to partners and customers is anything to go by.

Cloud and big data have generally lost their crown to DX as the number-one hobby horse at vendor conferences in 2017, and Dell is no exception.

In the 56-second video, Michael Dell (pictured above at EMC World last year) talked up how Dell's customers and partners are working together "to make digital transformation a reality". He also mentioned the words ‘digital' and ‘transformation' again, separately.

This year's event, which encompasses the Global Partner Summit, will of course be the first combined event for Dell and EMC following their $67bn union last September.

"We are thrilled to have our family of businesses together in one place," Dell said in his opening address, which was posted on Twitter last night ahead of the event's formal kick-off this morning.

"This week we will be moving the stake even further into our collective digital future with innovations that bring together the best of Dell, Dell EMC and VMWare. From the world's leading modern infrastructure, to cloud native development, to the edges of the Internet of Things, to the millions of people around the world who turn insight into innovation, we'll show how customers are transforming their industries and the world.

"It's going to be an absolutely epic week, and I can't wait to get started."

It was Dell's 33rd birthday on 3 May. In a tweet posted on the day, Michael Dell said the firm he started while at college has racked up $1tn in revenues during that time.

Dell EMC World will have heightened relevance for partners this year following the roll out of Dell and EMC's first combined partner programme in February, which classifies partners as Gold, Platinum, Titanium, or Titanium Black. Stay tuned for our coverage of the event.
