Meg Whitman: I'm not hailing down top job at Uber

HPE boss says she will not be Uber's next CEO, tweeting 'We have a lot of work still to do at HPE and I am not going anywhere'

Meg Whitman has taken to social media to head off rumours that she is being lined up as Uber's next CEO, claiming that her work is not yet done at HPE.

Whitman (pictured) joined HP in 2011 following a period of tumult for the vendor, and its share price crashed to a nine-year low when she told Wall Street it would take five years to turn around the hardware juggernaut.

With that five-year plan now completed, and HP successfully split in two, rumours surfaced earlier this year that Whitman could be eyeing her next challenge.

According to a Bloomberg report earlier this week, the former eBay boss was said to be in the running for the vacant CEO slot at troubled taxi-hailing outfit Uber, in which she was an early investor.

But although Whitman may be a perfect fit for Uber, as this report argues, she will not be its next CEO, according to postings from Whitman herself last night on Twitter and LinkedIn.

The pace of change enacted by Whitman at HP and HPE shows no sign of slowing, and last month she indicated that the vendor would follow up its recent purchase of SimpliVity and Nimble with further acquisitions.

Earlier this week she closed one chapter in her HP journey by standing down from the board of HPE's PC and printer sister brand, HP Inc.

But with revenues dropping 13 per cent in its most recent quarter, HPE is not without its challenges, and Whitman clearly believes she has unfinished business at the NYSE-listed vendor.
