Barracuda snaps up cloud security vendor for MSP push

Vendor bolsters Office 365 security offering

Barracuda has snapped up cloud security and data protection vendor Sonian in a move which it says will bolster its channel presence.

Founded in 2017, Sonian provides cloud archiving and analytics products which Barracuda claims will add to the data protection capabilities its platform already has around Office 365.

The Sonian platform has been designed with OEMs and managed service providers (MSP) in mind, Barracuda said, which it hopes will help extend its own channel reach.

"The Sonian team has done a great job of building and delivering a native cloud platform designed to meet the needs of partners and customers," said Barracuda CEO BJ Jenkins.

"The Sonian platform will enable us to continue to drive differentiation and leadership as customers move to Office 365.

"Further, we believe there is an opportunity to integrate Sonian's analytics and AI with our data protection portfolio, which combined with our leading security solutions provides a more complete solution to the market."

Barracuda said that Sonian brings with it over 32,000 new customers, as well as a number of large MSP partnerships.

Sonian CEO Tim McKinnon said: "Flexibility, ease of ownership, and reliability of cloud platforms continue to drive significant market demand.

"The potential of Sonian's technology and go-to-market model combined with Barracuda's scale and complementary products creates a powerful value proposition for both partners and customers."
