Intel CEO thanks industry for vulnerabilities response

Brian Krzanich praises industry collaboration over security scare

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich has praised the tech industry for its response to the Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities.

Since last week the world's largest vendors have been rushing to address flaws found in Intel chips, with Intel's share price taking a hammering in the process.

Krzanich himself has been criticised for offloading $25m (£18.5m) of Intel shares before the issue became public knowledge.

Speaking at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Krzanich said Intel will have all products introduced over the last five years updated by the end of January.

"The collaboration among so many companies to address this industry-wide issue across several different processor architectures has been truly remarkable," he said.

"Security is job number one for Intel and our industry, so the primary focus of our decisions and our discussions has been to keep our customers' data safe.

"As of now, we have not received any information that these exploits have been used to obtain customer data and we are working tirelessly on these issues to ensure it stays that way. The best thing you can do to make sure your data remains safe is to apply any updates from your operating system vendor and system manufacturer as soon as they become available."

Krzanich added that the impact of these updates on systems will be workload-dependent, with some workloads possibly experiencing a "larger impact than others".
