Microsoft chairman joins Rubrik board as vendor hits $300m run rate
Vendor sees run rate double since August
Backup start-up Rubrik has hit a run rate of $300m (£214m), with Microsoft chairman John Thompson joining its board of directors.
The vendor has doubled its run rate since August last year, and claims to be one of the fastest-growing enterprise infrastructure software companies in history.
Microsoft's Thompson has also joined Rubrik's board after investing in the firm, and Murray Demo has been appointed CFO.
Rubrik CEO Bipul Sinha said: "In the first four years at Rubrik, we have been able to help companies simplify what was once an extremely complex process — backup and data protection.
"But that's only the beginning. The world's largest enterprises are realising they need a better way to manage their data in the hybrid cloud.
"Bringing in John W Thompson's expertise and relationships and Murray Demo's financial acumen sets Rubrik on a solid foundation to accelerate our growth."
Last year Sinha told CRN that Rubrik's rapid growth will likely see it go public in the next few years.
The vendor raised $180m in funding in May, giving it a valuation of around $1.3bn.
Thompson said he became involved with Rubrik because the vendor operates in an area that has been starved of innovation.
"I invested in Rubrik because of the team's transformational vision to simplify how the entire data management model works — an area that hasn't seen significant innovation in more than 20 years," he explained.
"Few companies have innovated and executed better than Rubrik over the past four years. I am thrilled to join Rubrik's board at this exciting time."
