More than one in five resellers to develop own IP this year
23 per cent of firms questioned in CRN research planning to package and sell own intellectual property this year, with further 25 per cent already doing so

More than one in five resellers, MSPs and other channel firms are planning to package and sell their own intellectual property over the next 12 months.
That's one of the key findings of new CRN research that will be unveiled next Wednesday 7 March, at our free-to-attend CRN On event in central London. The event will feature high-profile speakers and panellists from Roc Technologies, Cisilion and Maintel, as well as event sponsor Oracle NetSuite.
The research questioned more than 100 UK resellers, MSPs, consultancies about their growth plans and cloud strategy for the year ahead.
When questioned about the new revenue streams they are intending to develop this year, 23 per cent said they are planning to package and sell their own intellectual property. A further 25 per cent said they already do so, which would mean that close to half of all channel firms will have their own IP by the end of 2018.
Some 58 per cent said they are planning to launch new service offerings this year, with a further 45 per cent expecting to develop further as-a-service solutions.
The research did, however, cast doubt over whether most resellers see expansion into new business areas as a priority, with the majority indicating that growing their existing business is their primary goal for the year ahead.
The findings will be discussed at next Wednesday's CRN On event, which will be held at Prince Philip house in central London. See here for more details.
