Computacenter talks up cloud hybrid focus after VMware deal

Channel giant one of only two UK launch partners to provide the VMware Cloud offering on AWS

Computacenter has been confirmed as one of only two UK launch partners to offer businesses the option of moving applications in and out of the public cloud following the launch of VMware Cloud on Amazon Web Services (AWS).

VMware Cloud on AWS allows businesses to access the same set of technologies they currently use in their own datacentres, and to use the existing investments they have to consolidate their datacentres.

Rival channel giant Softcat is the other UK launch partner.

"We have been VMware's top UK partner for many years but this new AWS capability will add huge value to our clients," claimed Kevin Stavers, director of platform and hybrid IT services at Computacenter.

"The ability to integrate VMware seamlessly with other native AWS services served out of the same datacentres will help our clients to architect new services models.

"We are perfectly placed to not only support these models, but to also make sure that they have the right infrastructure and skills to migrate, optimise and secure these workloads in the cloud."

Stavers said the competency ensures Computacenter has the right capabilities to help businesses through the migration and integration process to drive hybrid cloud adoption.

Paul Casey, chief technologist at Computacenter, said for enterprise IT customers, there is a significant degree of complexity and variation of needs for cloud adoption.

"Different business, cultural and operating factors are dictating the relative start point, technology and cloud direction, and the pace of adoption," said Casey.

"Over the last 18 months Computacenter has been developing a hybrid cloud adoption framework that guides the customer on their cloud adoption journey. This IP will become a key component as Computacenter helps customers leverage VMware Cloud on AWS and other native AWS service offerings."
