Amazon promises 1,000 new Irish jobs at opening of new Dublin office
Recruitment will include roles in AWS
Amazon has pledged to create 1,000 new jobs in Dublin, with a large chunk of these coming in Amazon Web Services (AWS)
The recruitment drive will focus on bolstering AWS' technical expertise as the firm looks to fill vacancies in software development, network development and solution architecture, as well as hire specialists in datacentre, security and big data.
The additional staff will be based across AWS' Dublin sites in Blanchardtown, Tallaght, North Country and the city centre.
Amazon's current headcount in Ireland stands at around 2,500.
Mike Beary, AWS country manager for Ireland, made the announcement as he opened a new office in Burlington Road in the capital.
"We announced in May 2016 that we were going to add 500 new jobs, and we were thrilled that we were able to reach that nine months early," he said.
"That gives us a lot of confidence that we are a compelling employer. We look for people who like to pioneer and build. That attracts a certain type of job candidate, and we've been pretty successful at that."
The news comes after reports emerged in September that Amazon was looking to buy up more office space in Dublin to hold an extra 800 staff.
