Meet the world's newest storage brand
Market entrant acquires two storage vendors and hints at further M&A activity
New vendor StorCentric has launched after acquiring two storage players in Drobo and Nexsan.
The move will see Drobo CEO Mihir Shah become chief exec of the combined business, with the acquired vendors operating as two divisions of the parent company.
Terms of the deals were not disclosed.
"Nexsan has a remarkable line of enterprise-class storage solutions that address complex business requirements, while Drobo has best in class prosumers and SMBs - both are critical components of StorCentric," Shah said.
The CEO stated that acquisitions will be a part of the new company's growth.
"We will continue to execute on our growth strategy, both organically and through acquisitions," he added.
Our focus will be on additional software and hardware products that address the needs of our customers and partners."
Nexsan was founded in Derby in 1999 and provides energy efficient disk-based storage systems.
California-based Drobo was founded in 2004 and produces external storage devices for computers.
The incorporation of both companies will see StorCentric's headcount reach 150 across North America, Europe and Asia.
StorCentric states that Drobo customers will now be able to avail of Nexsan's products, and vice versa.
StorCentric CTO Gary Watson, previously of Nexsan, said: "Nexsan and Drobo have a history of storage innovation, focused around efficiency and ease of deployment.
"Both Drobo and Nexsan have been developing new integration points to the evolving hybrid cloud world and these acquisitions give us the opportunity to work together on developing solutions which automatically optimise both, on-premises and on-cloud information management and governance."
