'Distributors are increasing their UK stockholding' - reseller on Brexit preparations
Pure Technology Group publishes its Brexit plans as the UK creeps towards March exit date
IT provider Pure Technology Group has published a statement outlining its Brexit strategy, in which it claims that UK distributors are stockpiling products in case UK ports reach breaking point.
The situation at UK ports has come under increasing scrutiny over recent weeks, with fears growing that delays at borders could hamper the flow of goods from overseas.
In a statement, Pure COO Cliff Fox said that distributors have started to prepare for possible issues getting tech products into the country in the event that the UK leaves the EU on 29 March.
"The biggest concern with Brexit is that British ports and HM Customs are not yet adequately prepared for a no-deal Brexit," he said.
"This could result in significant delays to the supply of IT goods in the UK as non-perishable goods may be de-prioritised in the event of border delays or backlog.
"In order to overcome possible delays, several major broadline UK IT distributors are increasing their UK stockholding and UK warehouse facilities. Distributors also have in-house expertise to process imports and exports from/to the EU and non-EU countries alike and are currently investigating goods affected by tariffs."
Fox also outlined Pure's own plans, claiming it has prepared its warehouse to hold more stock should customers ask for guarantees on certain product lines.
He claimed the firm is "working closely with its supply chain and global partners to suitably prepare and plan for different scenarios".
The COO also addressed issues relevant to EU citizens working in the UK, saying it will help employees apply for the relevant visa via the EU Settlement Scheme.
