New Year, new job?
Number of channel jobseekers spiked by 58 per cent on first working day of 2019, according to Robertson Sumner
While most of us spent our first day back after Christmas trying to work out what day of the week it actually was, others were evidently busy applying for new jobs, with a spike in applications on 2 January among channel jobseekers recorded by one recruiter.
Robertson Sumner claims that applications were up by 58 per cent on the first working day of the year on an annual comparison.
The recruitment firm, which works with vendors, distributors and resellers, took this as a positive sign that candidates have been emboldened by the high level of recruitment and expansion activities across the channel. According to the firm, 75 per cent of IT channel firms are planning to hire in Q1 or Q2 of 2019.
Marc Sumner, managing director of Robertson Sumner LTD, said: "People often use the Christmas break to decide on what they want from their career so we usually see an increase in applications, but this year the spike is staggering. People want more from their careers and they aren't prepared to stay in jobs that don't offer career progression or with bosses who aren't listening to their needs.
"The IT channel has had a very successful year with many of the VARs doing well and expanding, so with lots of positive news out there, this has cemented people's resolutions to look for a new job."
