Why this MSP lost its belief in hybrid cloud because of Azure Stack
Could Microsoft Azure and AWS Outposts be putting people off hybrid cloud?
Ahead of Microsoft making the Azure Stack ready to purchase in September 2017, CEO Satya Nadella claimed the debate between public and private cloud is over.
The Azure Stack, an on-premise solution that acts as an extension of the Azure offering, arguably completely changed the cloud conversation.
For years, industry analysts have prophesised the death of on-premise and private cloud infrastructures. But Nadella's proclamation in 2017 - that hybrid cloud is the ultimate answer - put the role of public cloud within a new, sobering reality.
"Organisations will demand offerings with more breadth and depth for their hybrid environments," the market watcher said.
And Amazon's launch of AWS Outposts just last year seems to confirm that on-premise infrastructure is here to stay.
'I lost my belief in public cloud' after launch of Azure Stack
But one MSP exec told CPI that becoming an early adopter of the Azure Stack has had the complete opposite effect.
"It's funny, from July going forward I lost my belief in hybrid cloud," said Jakob Norup, Microsoft global alliance director at pan-European Azure Expert MSP Sentia.
"Why did I do that? Because we have been engaged in the early adoption programme for Azure Stack."
