Watch: Computacenter's Clare Parry-Jones on need to showcase richer variety of roles
In the build up to the Women in Tech Festival UK 2019, Computacenter's most senior female salesperson says the industry needs to be doing more to showcase roles that lie outside the technical realm
In the run up to the CRN and Computing's Women in Tech Festival UK 2019, we are exploring the personal stories of some of the tech sector's inspiring female leaders.
We recently interviewed Computacenter's senior director of UK enterprise, Clare Parry-Jones, about her career journey and her experiences being the top female salesperson the UK's largest tech reseller and services firm.
In part two of our video with her, Parry-Jones reflects on how the industry could do a better job of showcasing the variety of roles on offer to girls and young women, including in areas such as HR and legal.
Using terms such as the 'tech sector' and 'women in IT' can create the impression that you have to be a techie to work in the industry, Parry-Jones said.
"There's part of me that says we need to do more to showcase the variety of roles as we get very hung up on the girld coding clubs and the hackathons," she said.
"There's so much more."
CRN and Computing's Women in Tech Festival UK 2019 will see 600 women come together on 17 September at The Brewery in Central London. Find out more here.
