Capgemini hails 'remarkable' UK performance

French system integrator praised UK region for growth in public sector business

Capgemini has praised its UK operation for its growth in the system integrator's (SI) H1 2019.

The French giant reported turnover of €7bn (£6.3bn) for the first half of its fiscal 2019, with the UK and Ireland region contributing 12 per cent, at €849m.

The SI reported 10 per cent growth or higher in the financial services, consumer goods and retail, and technology, media and telecoms (TMT) verticals, while its UK public sector wins were a "positive trend".

"We are demonstrating our ability to deliver continuously a strong increase in earnings, with growth in both revenue and profitability," stated Paul Hermelin, Capgemini CEO.

"Momentum remains strong in Europe, where we generate 60 per cent of our revenues, with a remarkable performance in France and the UK."

Earlier this month, the French giant shelled out €3.6bn for smaller rival Altran Technologies, which specialises in engineering and R&D services.

Capgemini stated that the merger would create a €17bn-revenue firm with a headcount of more than 250,000 people.

"Digital and cloud continue to develop at a rapid pace, and for the first time, represent half of our revenues. These excellent results demonstrate the relevance and strength of our strategy," Hermelin added.

"The first six months also saw the announcement of the proposed friendly takeover of Altran, a major strategic move for both our companies.

"We complement each other and with the cultural proximity we will create a world leader in digital transformation for industrial companies, what we call the ‘intelligent industry'."
