HP acquires cybersecurity vendor

PC and print vendor has been licensing Bromium's tech for its end-point security platform

HP Inc has acquired cybersecurity virtualisation vendor Bromium.

The PC and print vendor has been licensing Bromium technology for its products since 2017 to power its Sure Click web browser protection.

Andy Rhodes, global head of commercial systems at HP, said: "Security is a key competitive differentiator for HP, providing the most secure PCs and printers on the market.

"The acquisition of Bromium extends our investments, leadership and focus in this space, securing end-point devices that are on the front lines of defence against cybersecurity attacks."

HP said that Bromium will be combined with HP end-point protection solutions, including Sure Sense, Sure View and Sure Smart, to become part of its broader platform.

Bromium was co-founded by two former Citrix execs and is headquartered in Cupertino, California, with an R&D facility in Cambridge.

Ian Pratt and Simon Crosby founded XenSource, and then joined the virtualisation giant after it acquired the business.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
