NTT Security CEO on 'bad-guys-as-a-service' and consolidation in the MSSP space

NTT Security's CEO Matt Gyde discusses topics ranging from the rise of ‘bad-guys-as-a-service', to whether the IT industry has malware on the back foot, to the impact of BA's and Marriot's GDPR fines in an exclusive podcast with CRN's sister title Channel Partner Insight.
Gyde also reveals the latest developments in integrating Dimension Data and other NTT entities into the new NTT Ltd brand.

In the podcast, the NTT Security CEO claims that the IT industry has been losing the battle against cybercrime for the last 12 years, when the launch of the Apple iPhone in 2007 and the rise of wireless technologies and social media platforms such as Facebook gave criminals new ways of accessing our data.
Cybercrime has reached a point of sophistication where would-be criminals can now access malware-as-a-service on the dark web, claims Gyde.
"You've now got call centres, so if somebody decides they want to be a bad guy but doesn't really know how to do it, they can go on the dark web. For $8.99 they can buy a piece of malware, and they get a 1800 number to call if they can't figure out how to use it," he said.
"So it's very interesting what's happening in the industry. It has now evolved to bad-guys-as-a-service."
Formerly group executive of security for systems integration giant Dimension Data, Gyde took the reins as CEO of NTT Security in June as the business transitioned into the global NTT brand.
Gyde's career in cybersecurity spans 25 years, having worked at manufacturers and carriers before joining Dimension Data in 2006.
