It was a double coup for those who made the cut this year as their collective revenues hiked by double digit and profit margins recovered following several years of decline.

The Top 100 posted collective revenues of £17.4bn, an impressive 13.2 per cent hike year on year. That tops the 12.9 per cent increase registered by the top 100 the previous year.

In contrast to previous years, their revenue growth this time around was driven primarily by a rebound in product sales, with digital transformation and Windows 10 refreshes stoking higher demand for infrastructure and devices.

Computacenter, Softcat, CDW, Insight and SCC alone added £808m in product sales in their latest years.

After several years in freefall, the top 100's profitability also rebounded slightly, with adjusted average net profits standing at 3.14 per cent, compared with 2.90 per cent a year ago.

The end-user research featured at the back of the report, meanwhile, contains some encouraging findings for the channel, with 47 per cent of the 300-plus IT decision makers questioned believing multi-vendor solutions providers will become more important to their organisations, and only 11 per cent less so.

Thanks to constant efforts to keep tabs on partner portals and press releases, CRN has now accumulated data on more than 350 UK channel partners that are large enough to report revenues.

The revenue threshold for the hot 100 has consequently swelled from £12.5m in 2011 to £27.5m in 2016 to £41.6m this year.
