Sage and TSG founder awarded knighthood in New Year's Honours list

Women in tech also had a strong showing on this year's list

Sage co-founder Graham Wylie has been awarded a knighthood in the New Year's Honours list for services to business and charity.

Wylie is also founder of Newcastle-headquartered Technology Services Group, which counts Microsoft, Sophos and Datto among its partners.

Former HP EMEA General Manager Bill Thomas also became a knight for his charitable and political service. Thomas spent 25 years at Electronic Data Systems prior to his stint at HP and has held a string of directorships since leaving the latter in 2009.

Women in the UK tech sector also had a strong presence on the list with Capgemini UK executive chair Christine Hodgson being appointed a CBE for her service to education.

Sheila Flavell, COO of tech recruiting firm FDM Group is also being made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for her role in championing women in tech as a member of the board of both Tech UK and the Women in Tech Council.

Former BT boss Andy Green was also awarded a CBE in the list for his services to the IT sector and the British space industry, in his role as president of UK Space which he departed early in 2019 after a decade. He also headed Logica.

Jeanette Forbes, founder and chief exec of Aberdeen-based Microsoft partner PCL Group was awarded an OBE for services to the business, technology and charity sectors.
