'An era ends' - ScanSource Europe boss pays homage to staff after 23 years at distributor

Maurice van Rijn pens LinkedIn post as ex-ScanSource staff move to rivals including Nuvias, Blue Star Europe and Varlink

ScanSource's Europe's boss has claimed that an era has ended as he pays homage to the distributor's staff throughout its 23 years in operation.

The communications and point of sale distributor began to shut down its entire operations at the start of the year.

The process was set to affect around 300 ScanSource employees across Belgium, France, Germany and the UK. The redundancy process was expected to conclude between February and March, CRN understands.

The Zebra, Avaya and Extreme Networks distributor was sold to private equity firm Ten Oaks Group for $30m in November after its US parent, ScanSource Inc, first announced plans to sell its European hardware business in 2019.

Writing on LinkedIn over the weekend, ScanSource Europe's president Maurice van Rijn announced that he plans to take some "time out" while also paying homage to 23 years with the distributor.

"After 23 years, an era ends," the post reads.

"Thanks to all my ScanSource friends, our vendor partners and customers. We have supported millions of orders and thousands of large projects to build a better and greater business for all.

"But above all, we created thousands of memories that will last forever. Thank you so much! For now it's a time out!"

Former ScanSource Europe staff in the UK have already found new roles in the industry following their previous employers' collapse.

Pan-European VAD Nuvias today announced that it has hired an undisclosed number of "highly skilled staff" to its unified communications business who were previously employed by ScanSource in the UK and France.

The additions will bolster Nuvias' UC team by 10 per cent, the distributor claims, and is part of a wider expansion strategy to grow the distributor's influence into the AV technology space.

One of the new hires includes ScanSource Europe's former VP of vendor management Nick Waldeck who now joins Nuvias UC's senior leadership team as operations director this quarter - ready for the beginning of Nuvias' fiscal year beginning in April.

Point of sale distributor Varlink has meanwhile hired three new account managers who previously worked in ScanSource's point of sale division. Another competitor, Blue Star Europe, has announced several new hires over the last week who are ex-ScanSource Europe personnel.

ScanSource rebranded its websites and corporate branding to TexelPro in February as part of a planned rebrand following its split from its US parent.
