AWS crowns ex-Tableau boss Selipsky as new CEO
The seasoned exec first joined the cloud giant in 2005
Amazon has announced that Adam Selipsky is to replace Andy Jassy as CEO of AWS later this year.
Last month it was revealed that Jassy will replace founder Jeff Bezos as CEO of parent company Amazon following his decision to move to an executive chairman role during the third quarter of 2021.
"Adam brings strong judgment, customer obsession, team building, demand generation, and CEO experience to an already very strong AWS leadership team. And, having been in such a senior role at AWS for 11 years, he knows our culture and business well," Jassy said in a statement to staff.
Selipsky first joined the hyperscaler in 2005 as one of the first VPs hired.
He ran AWS's sales, marketing, and support as well as some other areas such as its AWS Platform services for a short time.
Selipsky has been CEO of Tableau Software since 2016.
The company was snapped up by Salesforce in 2019, which saw Selipsky join its executive leadership team while remaining as CEO of Tableau.
Prior to this he was VP of video subscription business RealNetworks from 1999 to 2005, and a partner at firm Mercer Management Consulting for six years.
