HPE makes third acquisition in three weeks with purchase of analytics firm
Ampool's technology will be integrated into GreenLake to boost analytics as-a-service offering, vendor says
HPE has acquired structured query language (SQL) analytics firm Ampool, its third acquisition in just three weeks.
The business will be integrated into HPE's Ezmeral software organisation and will "play a pivotal role in accelerating HPE Ezmeral analytics runtime for interactive SQL workloads", the vendor says.
It follows the $374m acquisition of cloud data management and protection firm Zerto last week, while it also agreed to purchase San Francisco-based, machine learning startup Determined AI last month.
"Current on-premises SQL technologies don't account for the new requirements around hybrid cloud and scale," Anant Chintamaneni, vice-president and GM, HPE Ezmeral said.
"As a result, modernising the SQL stack is at the forefront of analytics transformations, to address the challenges in the hybrid cloud and disparate data space.
"To help address this challenge, I am thrilled to announce HPE's acquisition of Ampool, an innovative developer of a data platform designed to deliver a cloud-native, high-performance SQL analytics engine for data engineers and business analysts."
The acquisition will build on HPE's aim of delivering analytics as-a-service through GreenLake, he adds, with Ampool's technology set to "turn into a set of SQL acceleration services made available through the HPE GreenLake cloud platform" over time.
It also comes after HPE announced several updates to its GreenLake offering, including the launch of GreenLake Lighthouse and Project Aurora.
