Sir Chris Hoy joins Softcat and Mimecast to raise £35k for homelessness charity
60-mile bike ride across Scotland raises fund to help Social Bite build two new villages
Softcat and Mimecast have teamed up to raise £35k for homelessness charity Social Bite as part of its Break the Cycle fundraising event which took place earlier this month.
Alongside Sir Chris Hoy, a team of around 30 from Softcat and Mimecast embarked on a 60-mile ride across Scotland's central belt from the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome in Glasgow to the flagship Social Bite village in Granton, Edinburgh.
The event goal was to raise £1m to help build Social Bite villages in two new cities, planned for Glasgow and London, and at the same time raise awareness of homelessness.
10 per cent of funds raised from the event will also be donated to SAMH, the Scottish Association for Mental Health, and further funds will be invested in Social Bite's mission to ‘Break the Cycle' of homelessness by providing food, employment opportunities, and housing projects.
"The goal has to be that everyone in the UK should have a safe place to call home and have the same access to benefits and facilities as the rest of society so we are delighted to have joined Social Bite, and Sir Chris Hoy, in their campaign to Break the Cycle of Homelessness," Graeme Watt, CEO of Softcat, said.
"It was a fantastic experience, we were blessed with some great weather and we are pleased to have been able to raise so much money towards their goal.
"I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the event particularly the teams from Softcat and Mimecast."
