BT inks agreement with AWS as preferred cloud provider to 'help reduce IT maintenance costs'
BT says it wants to AWS to help modernise its infrastructure and lower IT costs
BT has signed a five-year agreement with AWS as its preferred cloud provider to accelerate its digital transformation strategy.
The telecoms giant say it intends to use AWS to transform its applications to be cloud-first and modular, while reducing IT maintenance costs for the legacy business.
BT added that it hopes the hyperscaler will accelerate plans for on a new suite of digital products and services.
"We have a big opportunity when it comes to modernising our infrastructure, and our collaboration with AWS is a key one for us as we deliver the transformation needed to accelerate BT," BT Digital chief operating officer Thomas Dücke said.
The agreement is one element of BTs broader modernisation programme that aims to deliver £2bn in gross annualised savings by end FY24.
BT says the collaboration with AWS is a cornerstone of BT Digital's plans to deliver an "industry-leading, cloud-first architecture for BT Group".
Adolfo Hernandez, vice president and general manager of the telecom global industry business unit at AWS, added: "BT's move to cloud-first applications can help reduce IT maintenance costs, streamline operations and help it better adapt to evolving customer needs.
"Plus, the AWS pay-as-you-go model offers flexibility so BT only pays for the IT needed."
