$150bn distributor consortium GTDC calls on channel to explore more 'green' sales opportunities

The CEO of the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) has called on the channel to do more to explore potential "green" sales and service opportunities.

"Environmental sustainability is an important and growing point of focus for the IT industry," said Frank Vitagliano.

The GTDC is a global consortium of distributors, including Exclusive Networks, Exertis, Ingram Micro, Infinigate, CMS Distribution and Arrow Electronics, that claims its members drive around $150bn (€127.34bn) in annual global sales of products, services and solutions through the channel.

In a new study - The IT Industry Embraces Environmental Sustainability - the GTDC has highlighted some of the ways in which the channel is already supporting global efforts for environmental sustainability.

Initiatives highlighted include assessing companies' current environmental impact to establish a baseline and developing environmental sustainability plans covering a cross-section of countries with different regulations, standards and cultural norms.

It also looks at potential opportunities within the industry to drive further change though thought leadership.

"Distributors are engaging and providing thought leadership in this area and, with many initiatives already in place, continuing to enhance their objectives and reporting capabilities." Vitagliano said.
