Cloud telephony moves up in Maintel's estimation

Maintel is the latest channel partner to throw its hat into the carbon measurement ring, launching a ‘Carbon Estimator' designed to help customers to compare the emissions of their current telephony system with a cloud-based solution.

The Avaya partner developed the carbon estimator to assist IT teams looking to support a case to transition to cloud telephony. While the tool provides an estimate only, Maintel claims it also offers full on-site audit services to provide an absolute number.

Over the last 12 months, various resellers and MSPs have launched tools and services designed to help customers measure the emissions of either all or part of their IT estate or across their business.

Maintel said the launch of its Carbon Estimator comes amid a backdrop of increased government legislation that is driving organisations to examine their carbon emissions. Telephony systems must form part of this analysis if companies are to meet strict net zero targets, it claimed.

"We hope our new Estimator will stimulate conversations between ESG and sustainability leads, and the IT department," said Joanne Ballard, ESG strategy and compliance director at Maintel.

"IT equipment creates carbon emissions and has a footprint, both from its manufacturing and ongoing use. This tool will help to inform business leaders of how migrating to cloud telephony can lower carbon emissions. It will allow organisations to review their ESG efforts and better meet latest government legislation."
