Microsoft cuts some jobs but plans to grow headcount overall
Vendor insists it plans to keep hiring and end this fiscal year with a higher headcount
Microsoft has cut some jobs as it realigns its business groups following the close of the fiscal year, Bloomberg reports.
The vendor, however, said it plans to keep hiring for other roles and is looking to finish the current fiscal year with an increased headcount.
The layoffs currently affect less than one per cent of the company's workforce and include a variety of different sections of the business - including customer and partner solutions - across several locations.
"Today we had a small number of role eliminations," the vendor said in an emailed statement to Bloomberg.
"Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis, and make structural adjustments accordingly.
"We will continue to invest in our business and grow headcount overall in the year ahead."
The company added that the cuts were not related to the current global economic challenges that businesses are facing.
