Check Point CISO joins Scotland's National Cyber Resilience Advisory Board

Check Point has confirmed its field CISO of EMEA has become a member of Scotland's National Cyber Resilience Advisory Board (NCRAB).

Deryck Mitchelson will join leaders across the private, public and third sectors and the cyber security industry to provide strategic advice to support Scottish Ministers and the Scottish Government.

The role will see him help ensure Scotland is a digitally secure and resilient nation.

The NCRAB was set up in 2016 with the aim of making sure Scotland is ready to deal with cyber security risks.

"NCRAB supports the effective delivery of the Framework and its associated action plans by strengthening strategic relationships across sectors and by influencing or intervening at strategic level to unblock barriers to achieving outcomes," its website states.

Mitchelson said he is "delighted" to have been appointed and hopes to bring in his experience as well as learn from others.

"The most important aspect of my job is collaboration and communication," he said.

"I spend significant time with customers and partners, understanding their plans and strategies and supporting them with maturing their cyber posture, whether that is through the Check Point portfolio, basic hygiene or other third-party solutions."

According to Check Point research, UK companies experienced an average of 777 cyberattacks a week over the last six months while its mid-year report revealed a 42 per cent global increase in attacks.

"Cyberattacks are now at an all-time high and I have always been a big believer that this kind of collaboration is the only way forward if we want to stop cybercrime. It's crucial in our industry that we can learn from each other, sharing insights, expertise and experience," Mitchelson added.
