IBM awarded £52.4m contract to support NHS app
The deal was announced in a contract award notice by the UK government
IBM has secured a multi-million-pound contract to support and develop the NHS app.
The £52.4m deal was announced in a contract award notice by the UK government.
It states that Big Blue will provide "consulting, software development, Internet and support" for the NHS app.
The contract started on 30 June 2022 will last until 29 June 2026.
The NHS app was announced in 2017 and launched in January 2019.
It provides a secure way for people to access a range of NHS services on their mobile device or computer.
"The NHS's Long-Term Plan objectives state that the NHS App will create a standard online way for people to access the NHS and that the app will work seamlessly with other services at national and local levels and, where appropriate, be integrated into patient pathways," the contract award notice said.
"The NHS App seeks to empower patients by giving them access to core NHS transaction services and visibility of their records."
It is available for download in both the Apple and Google Play stores and can also be accessed from a browser via a desktop or laptop computer.
